# Academic Textbook Links

A public, expandable **LAION link collection** for scientific textbooks, scholarly books, complete academic chapters, edited research-paper collections, dissertations, habilitation theses and full scholarly research/review articles. It helps people and coding agents find substantial academic texts available as complete PDFs on the public web.

**We host links and bibliographic metadata; no PDFs or extracted book text.** The long-term goal is an index across all scientific disciplines. Sources should be discoverable with ordinary search engines such as Google or Bing, or standard web-search tools available to coding agents such as Codex and Claude Code.

## Current catalogue

The 31 October 2026 catalogue contains **275 subject collections**, grouped into **Agricultural And Biological Sciences**, **Arts And Humanities**, **Biochemistry Genetics And Molecular Biology**, **Business, Management and Accounting**, **Chemical Engineering**, **Chemistry**, **Computer Science**, **Decision Sciences**, **Dentistry**, **Earth And Planetary Sciences**, **Economics Econometrics And Finance**, **Energy**, **Engineering**, **Environmental Science**, **Health Professions**, **Immunology And Microbiology**, **Materials Science**, **Mathematics**, **Medicine**, **Neuroscience**, **Nursing**, **Pharmacology**, **Physics And Astronomy**, **Psychology**, **Social Sciences**, **Veterinary**:

- **63,934 downloaded-and-screened domain entries**, representing **63,426 distinct PDFs**. Full files were downloaded privately; agents inspected opening, middle and ending pages plus imprint/contents or visual scans where needed. Identical full-file hashes can share content review, with a separate subject relevance check.
- **All 4,250 earlier bibliography leads received dated check outcomes** in a parallel Luna run at low reasoning effort: **2,922 accepted**, **208 rejected**, **985 unavailable at the check attempt** and **135 unresolved**. Accepted leads include duplicates; the catalogue deduplicates identical PDFs within each subject and retains cross-subject assignments. The catalogue additionally includes the earlier 218 screened seed entries.
- **1,328 remaining leads** retain concrete reasons and check dates. HTTP blocking, rate limits, source-only pages, uncertain access and content findings are distinguished in the notes. A failed attempt does not prove permanent unavailability.

The first round of all **28 Psychology and selected intersection jobs is complete**. The [dated campaign summary](planning/psychology_search_summary.json) records **1,398 actual search queries**, 297 PDF endpoint attempts, and **164 approved domain entries representing 161 newly added distinct PDFs**. One worker-screened thesis remains held centrally for unresolved pagination gaps. Three earlier jobs exceeded their query budgets; actual totals and deviations are preserved. Mapped support exists for **58 of 144 core topics**; a finished round does not imply exhaustive coverage.

A further **five-worker Luna 6 campaign at medium reasoning effort** targets Positive Psychology/gratitude/altruism, attachment/parenting, Flow/engagement, default-mode/memory/self neurobiology, and hypnotherapy/CBT/cult psychology. At the [dated focused checkpoint](planning/focused_search_summary.json), **5 of 5 rounds are complete**, with **364 actual queries** and **54 approved domain entries** (54 distinct PDFs new relative to the reviewed preceding catalogue). The current verified set includes 860 individual full research/review articles, separately labelled from books, chapters and compilations. A record's status and check time matter. Screening concerns access, academic context, relevance and completeness; it does not certify every scientific claim. Original titles and some legacy notes retain their source language. Folders, column names and agent guides use English.

All 42 medical subfields, including the classical clinical specialties, plus 8 neuroscience subfields and 7 psychology subfields received separate bounded discovery/screening rounds.

OpenAlex's hierarchy is **4 domains → 26 fields → 252 subfields → 4,516 topics**. The thousands of topics are fine-grained research areas, rather than thousands of broad disciplines. This gives future contributors a vocabulary for covering additional subjects. The current folders are editorial collections and do not yet cover that whole hierarchy. ## Continuous OpenAlex work queue

The [to-do CSV](planning/openalex_workqueue.csv) lists **252 official subfields** across **26 fields** and **4 domains**. **252 subfields** have explicitly mapped screened PDFs; **0 currently have zero**. Counts deduplicate full-file SHA-256 hashes within each subfield. The CSV also lists book-scope counts, entry/URL counts, generated priority, lease status and last search time.

**315 screened entries remain unassigned to a subfield** and are reported in the [queue summary](planning/workqueue_summary.json). The [explicit mapping](planning/collection_subfield_map.json) uses collection-level editorial primary assignments rather than official per-work OpenAlex classifications. A zero does not establish that no public academic text exists.

[Worker and orchestrator instructions](planning/PARALLEL_AGENT_WORKFLOW.md) explain how Luna agents on different hosts claim the least-covered eligible subfield, renew an expiring lease, screen full PDFs privately on Scratch, and publish only links and metadata. The [queue tool](scripts/workqueue.py) merges against the latest Hub revision and commits accepted records, regenerated counts and lease release together. Conflicting writers reload and retry; expired or replaced owners cannot publish under the old lease.

Use an authorized private Hub credential for shared claims/publication; other contributors can submit reviewed proposals. PDF files, extracted text, screenshots, proof manifests and logs stay on private Scratch outside the repository.

Supply `DOMAIN: <your discipline>`; the orchestrator provides tools, budgets and private working directories. [ORCHESTRATOR_GUIDE.txt](ORCHESTRATOR_GUIDE.txt) explains domain jobs, spawning in bounded waves, shared host limits, checkpoints, central review and safe metadata publication.

The [prepared 252-subfield search queue](planning/README.md) provides a standalone worker prompt and machine-readable job for every OpenAlex subfield. The [psychology-first to-do list](planning/PSYCHOLOGY_TODO.md) starts with 7 official Psychology subfields covering 144 finer topics, then 21 editorially selected intersections. The earlier 28 Psychology-focused jobs and the systematic additional round together cover 69 of the 252 official subfield jobs, with overlaps counted once; the remaining 183 jobs are planned. Read the dated campaign progress rather than treating a generated prompt as execution evidence. The initial book-oriented scope excludes ordinary individual articles. Use [CSV](planning/subfield_jobs.csv) or [JSONL](planning/subfield_jobs.jsonl) for an orchestrator, and update coverage only from actual screened results.

The [editorial crosswalk](planning/EDITORIAL_CROSSWALK.md) connects existing specialties to prepared jobs. A [suggested execution order](planning/psychology_execution_order.csv) groups the 28 psychology and intersection jobs into ten initial waves with up to three workers each. A separate meta-agent checked all 252 prompts against the taxonomy and job queue; this consistency review does not claim completed searches.

The core screening flow is: search public academic sources → deduplicate → download the full PDF privately → inspect page samples and contents → retain accepted public links → validate and merge. Exclude slides, rough lecture scripts, short summaries, previews and incomplete extracts. Individual full scholarly papers and large institutional reports can be included where a subject's declared scope allows them; label their actual document type.

Install the download-helper dependencies with `python -m pip install -r requirements.txt`. The PDF helper produces technical probes and does not automatically accept a work:

Keep `PRIVATE_WORK_DIR` outside any upload folder. Publish no downloaded PDFs, page images, extracted text, secrets or private logs.
