# Segway

**K562 Segway segments with 25 chromatin-state classes and hg18 sequences** — multiclass classification.

Segway performs semi-automated genomic annotation by unsupervised segmentation of multiple chromatin signal tracks. The authors' project page provides the K562 signal tracks (hg18 bedGraph) and the segmentation results used in the paper.

Each row is one segment: `sequence` is its hg18 sequence (variable length; median 122 bp, maximum 5,556 bp) and `labels` one of the authors' 25 mnemonic classes (mapping in `dnallm/label_map.json`); 28,112 rows in a single train split.

Official dataset description: [Segway project page](https://noble.gs.washington.edu/proj/segway/).

## Splits

Subset: `default`

| Split | Rows |
|---|---:|
| train | 28,112 |

## Format

Parquet. Main columns:

| Column | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `sequence` | string | Segment DNA sequence (hg18) |
| `labels` | int64 | State index (25 classes) |
| `mnemonic` / `description` | string | Author mnemonic and description |
| `chrom` / `start` / `end` | string / int64 | Segment coordinates |
| `region` | string | Training region |

## Usage

Example with [DNALLM](https://github.com/zhangtaolab/DNALLM): subset `default`, multiclass classification, `num_labels=25`.

```python
from modelscope.msdatasets import MsDataset
from dnallm import DNADataset
ds = MsDataset.load("User040218/Segway", subset_name="default")
# tokenizer: the tokenizer of your DNALLM model; set max_length to match its tokenization
data = DNADataset(ds, tokenizer=tokenizer, max_length=5558)
```

## Notes

- Segment lengths vary widely; truncate or chunk to the maximum length of your model.
- Only a train split is provided.
